General Information
Northern Child was built in
Pietesaari,Finland, by
Nautor Swan, which are widely acclaimed to be the finest production sailing
yachts in the world. Swan yachts are renowned for their outstanding sailing
abilities, their unfailing quality of construction and craftsmanship, their
luxurious accommodation and their classic elegant lines.
Northern Child is one of naval architect German Frers'
outstanding all-round designs and shares the same performance pedigree of
'Blizzard', a famous 51ft Admiral's Cup racer, except that Northern Child was
also fitted with a lavish cruising interior and the hull sections were enlarged
to accommodate the increase in displacement. Fast and easy to sail, she has four
comfortable cabins sleeping up to 12 people. Northern Child is a fine balance
between a racing and cruising yacht.
Northern Child was built in 1984 for an Italian owner, who
has since become the owner of Nautor Swan. She was first kept in the
Mediterranean as a family cruising boat and for some fun racing regattas such as
the Swan World Cup. In 1997, she was sold to a British owner and sailed from
Italy back to the UK, where she competed in several prestigious events before
undergoing a complete refit in 1998/99.
The refit included new teak decks,
winches, sails, electronics and paint.
She was then purchased in March 2001 by the current owner, and upgraded
internally with new cushions, curtains and a complete revarnish. New equipments
include computer with Seapro navigation software, 220 volt invertor, generator,
radar, GPS, SSB and VHF radios, water maker, Satphone, new main Yanmar engine,
new sails, new running rigging. She is now maintained to the highest standards.
